2017 CF UPCOUNTRY SUGAR DETOX FEB. 1-10

>> HELLO FROM THE SUGAR SIDE

Due to its popularity last year, we will launch a 10-day sugar detox, but this time it will be in preparation for the CrossFit Games Open, a worldwide online competition for CrossFitters from Feb. 23 to March 27. The 2017 CF Upcountry sugar detox kicks off Feb. 1 – 10, with the general guidelines outlined by acclaimed film, “Fed Up,” which we highly recommend as motivation for this challenge.

“Fed Up” is a documentary on the devil — that is sugar — and how it wreaks havoc on our bodies. Instead of doing a traditional clean-eating or diet challenge at the start of this year, we will be tackling a root problem. Sugar and its spawns are a leading cause in cravings and a host of illnesses. If we can minimize our sugar intake to fruit-only sources, then we can curb many dietary issues.

Plus, there is no one-size-fits-all for dietary approaches. Each body is unique and demands a different balance of macronutrients, protein, fat and carbs, along with micronutrients. The one thing all dietitians agree upon is that excess sugar, especially the processed kind, is not healthy.

Here’s what you need to know:

WHAT: CrossFit Upcountry 10-day sugar detox inspired by “Fed Up”

WHEN: Feb. 1 – 10: 10 full, 24-hour days

WHO: Any CF Upcountry member

GUIDELINES:

  1. Get informed. Watch “Fed Up.” Read information about the film that’s inspired the sugar-free challenge: Fed Up Challenge
  2. Learn to detect hidden sugars and sugar synonyms. Just because it says “Sugar Free” does not mean it is sugar free. Marketing lies. Ingredients do not. Check out the charts below and sift out all sugar sources in your food by READING INGREDIENT LABELS ON ALL FOODS CONSUMED. For this challenge, we will only allow fresh or dried fruit as your sugar source. No juice. No agave. No honey. No stevia. No coconut sugar. No dried fruit with added sugar. And please don’t ask me again if Diet Coke is allowed.
  3. Sign up and information will be posted soon; in the meantime, GET THE SUGAR OUT OF YOUR HOUSE. Give it away. Donate it. Eat it. Wait, don’t eat it. Maybe it eat. It depends on what it is. Regardless, start to clean out your cupboards. PREPARATION IS KEY!!!
