Small eyes; big smiles. Happy birthday to Kaipo Thomas, who’s an inspiring athlete, volleyball coach, Waipuna pastor, fisherman and friend — who I’ve been been blessed to know since high school days. He’s been an anchor for many of us in the local community. We are grateful that you’ve shown us how to serve others well!

DOC YOGI MEMORIAL MEET TODAY!
Come watch four of our athletes – Kaikaika (above at the 2014 Doc Yogi meet), Chris C., Nikki and Diane – at the annual Doc Yogi Memorial Weightlifting meet, which starts at 10 a.m. at Manulani: Upcountry Maui Events Venue, 7984 Kula Highway in Kula (after second entrance to Hawaiian Homes). Entry is free. Special thanks to Olympic weightlifting coaches Frank Tam, Vernon Patao, Val Patao and Lawrence Kauhaahaa for donating time and resources to hold the USAW event, a one-of-a-kind community gathering with epic views and food for athletes. We are proud of our Hawaii lifters, who are strong for so many reasons. Congratulations to all who participate!
