HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIERA!

To her credit, Kiera did do the open last year. Only because she was tired of my coercing.

I looked back at what I wrote for Kiera last year: Kiera’s birthday post. It’s really tough to beat. If I could have a permanent CFUM demo person, Kiera would it, because her movements are so solid. This athlete makes everything look easy, until you attempt it, then you realize how hard it really is. Because she excels at so many things, Kiera has been a target for my peer pressure. I’ve tried to get her into many a competition — for CrossFit, for weightlifting and for running — but she’s repeatedly dodged the competitive realm. She is much too busy being a great mom; a wife to Anders, our other CFUM favorite; and a graphic designer, among other roles. We respect this lady a lot, and we are extremely grateful to have her as one of our Upcountry Originals. Thanks for showing us what it means to be humble and hard working, Kiera! We adore you. Have a great birthday! So, Hana Relay this year? OK!

SPEAKING OF THE LYONS FAMILY

kapalaoa pushups

holua pullups

Wonder how Anders does so well on the WODs? Secret elevation training. The Lyons family went backpacking in Haleakala Crater over the weekend. Kiera said, “Apparently carrying a heavy pack for 20 miles wasn’t enough” so Anders decided to do weighted L-sit pull-ups and rows at Holua, push-ups at Holua and push-ups at Kapalaoa. We love this fit family!
