HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELENA!

photo(680)photo(682)Elena has one of my best friends since grade school (find her, Patty and I in picture above). What’s less known is that she’s an undercover pint-sized powerhouse. She grew up with a condition that required her to have surgery on both Achilles, so she had (and has) an easy excuse to cop out of training. Instead, she’s charged hard her whole life, leading our basketball team as a high-scoring point guard, running multiple 5ks and the dreaded leg 4 of Hana Relay, and building an impressive upper body strength total, among other accomplishments. What’s really exciting, though, is to see her transform in the last year. She went from not knowing how much her lower body was capable of, to being able to deadlift close to 275. I’m not sure if Elena surprises herself — or others — more. But this girl should never be underestimated for her size. She’s capable of running fast, jumping high and lifting a crap ton of weight. I am so proud of her commitment to defy the odds — proving that no challenge, physical or otherwise, will hold her back. We love you, bowsie. Keep up your hard work. You inspire us! And you’re one of the most crazy fun people we know!
