We had an awesome time at the 2016 California Regionals in Del Mar, Calif., last weekend, where we cheered on our friends, CrossFit 808, as they secured another ticket to Carson for the CrossFit Games team competition this summer. Regionals, a three-day competition, is the qualifier for the Games, and we found it to be a more casual, intimate setting, which boasted many of the same CF celebrity sightings, apparel and equipment vendors, and food that the larger competition has to offer. We would highly recommend attending for anyone who wants to avoid the CF Games crowd, especially because presummer flights are more affordable.

Besides catching up with friends, such as former coach Holley, we trained daily at Invictus CrossFit at its Point Loma and Downtown San Diego locations. Invictus is owned by CJ Martin, who is a highly accomplished CF and Olympic weightlifting coach. We met CJ years ago during his regular family visits to Maui, and it is always nice to connect with him. We were really impressed with CJ’s team of coaches and front desk staff. The atmosphere he’s built is unparalleled when it comes to balancing community and competition. We learned a lot just from working out in their classes. If you happen to be in the area, we hope you’re able to drop in for some workouts.

On that note, we leave you with an Invictus workout that we did last week. It’s a fun and fast one — definitely not as bad as it looks.
