>> mobility cert was a smashing good time.

CrossFit Upcountry got mobilized by the man who started a movement during a daylong session Saturday at CrossFit Maui in Kahului. The sold-out CrossFit Movement and Mobility Certification course drew people from around Hawaii and the Mainland to learn mobility tools from physical therapist Dr. Kelly Starrett, author of “Becoming a Supple Leopard.” Starrett and his wife, Juliet, founded San Francisco CrossFit, one of the oldest and most established boxes in CrossFit history. On Saturday, KStarr broke down foundational exercises like the push-up and the squat, correcting positions and improving our understanding of human movement. Moreover, we realized the importance of self-rehabilitation, which should be done at least 10 minutes a day. A highlight of the course was learning new lat smashing techniques; you better believe it’s coming to Thursday mobwod classes. The CF Movement and Mobility course does not have prerequisites, and we would highly recommended it to every CrossFitter. Mahalo to Danny and Whitney of CrossFit Maui for hosting the course; their new 12K sq ft space off Dairy Road is pretty amazing. We’re super thankful the supple leopard came to Maui; and Juliet reassured us that it won’t be their last trip. Also, congrats to Kristina (top photo from left), Kim T.K., Sherri, Steve and Sara, our full-time and part-time members, who completed the course!

P.S. >> Steve and Sherri will have their last workout with us Thursday. They’ve been training with CFUM for nearly two months, driving all the way from South Maui to come to our box. The Washington/Arizona CrossFit supercouple has a history with CFUM: They used to train under Kaye’s coaching and grew close to our community; they even made a bunch of the boxes that we still have. It’s going to be tough to part with our dear friends, but we’re hoping they get back here soon. Steve and Sherri: Mahalo for being part of our Upcountry family! You will be missed!
