We’re excited to announce the start of our new, all-level Olympic Weightlifting Class led by Coach Toby, a certified L1 CF trainer, at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, starting today.

The class is for all skill levels: The only prerequisites are an appreciation of the snatch and clean and jerk, and a desire to learn. Sessions run for one hour and will start by covering fundamentals.

Weekly, we will hold Saturday max-out training sessions, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Coaches will be on-site, lifting as well. This time will be less guided but still lots of fun.

The facility will continue to be available during normal open gym hours for individual training; we can better accommodate simultaneous classes once the third phase of the gym is completed, likely in the next month.

Toby, who comes from a family of accomplished Maui coaches, has proven to be a great lifting resource with in-class experience coaching CFUM athletes to PRs. His own Olympic lifting training started in high school. And he recently competed in the CrossFit Maui All Comers Weightlifting Meet and the Lahaina Town Throwdown, where he landed the heaviest full clean thruster of the day at 255 lbs. to rank first in his division. As an athlete, Toby has explosive power, speed, strength and solid technique, which are required to excel at Olympic weightlifting, a challenging and rewarding sport. As a coach, he has a great gift of encouragement and a community-centered, selfless heart, not to mention, some really good lifting insights. We’re confident Toby will help each lifter get better, faster and stronger.

If you like lifting, you won’t want to miss this. First class starts today!
